    Description

The origin of dressed dolls can be traced back to the Edo period (1603-1868 A.D.). When top tier girls got married, their parents gave them the Dressed Dolls as a ‘substitute’ that would consume possible misfortunes on behalf of the girls. For this reason, the dolls were crafted as women of top tier ranks. As the crafting techniques evolved with time, the dolls today have come to be enjoyed by all people. Particular among them is the doll modeling a Japanese traditional dancer called Oyama Doll named after Jirosaburo Oyama, a renowned doll maker in the Edo period. The creator, whose unknown name because I can not speak or read Japanese is on the wooden piece in the picture. I like to think they are a master because this doll is amazing. The three pink parts in the picture that made the back of the obi fell off. They originally had pins that attached them. Someone with more patience and skill than me could redo that the same way by putting pins through the pieces or figure out a new way to make them stay on there. It was the original state so I would encourage it to be done. You get case and all. Show your love for Japan and its culture with this work of art.
