Description
DescriptionThis is one Libyan Desert Glass ( LDG ) crystal. Total weight is 30.5 grams, 152.5ct. This is a regular grade piece. Regular grade LDG
has a cloudy appearance, many visible inclusions, is not seen as entirely or partially clear through light, and lacks the gem look and quality of higher grades. The
appearance
of this piece against light reveals a slight greenish tint seen in some LDG crystals.
Large LDG stones such as this one are often used for meditation stones and mantle
pieces.
Interest in Libyan Desert Glass has recently increased significantly. LDG is often used along with moldavite for the combined, amplified energy of these 2 tektites.

Libyan desert glass is the name given to fragments of canary-yellow glass found scattered over hundreds of kilometers, between giant shifting sand dunes in the eastern Sahara Desert. These fragments are the purest
form
of natural glass (
silica )
found
on earth.
Interest in Libyan desert glass goes back more than 3,000 years. Among items recovered from King Tut’s burial chamber sits a gold and jeweled breast plate. In the center of the plate sits a beautiful scarab beetle, carved from Libyan Desert Glass.
How LDG was created is a debated topic. Craters seen in recent satellite images of eastern Libya suggest
that similar to moldavite and the Ries crater, this meteor of 30 million years ago struck the earth. This goes against another popular theory that the meteor exploded above the desert.
