Description
Nemiana simplexPalij, 1976 and
Charnia sp.
(carved reconstruction by professional artist-preparer).
Charnia is a genus of frond-like Ediacaran lifeforms with segmented, leaf-like ridges branching alternately to the right and left from a zig-zag medial suture. The living organism was a type of life form that grew on the sea floor. The discovery of Charnia was an important step in paleontology, since it was previously assumed that there were no large living organisms in Proterozoic at all, but only microorganisms.
Nemiana is a genus of primitive sedentary organisms of the Ediacar biota. Nemiana simplex is a problem for taxonomy because of the extreme primitiveness of the structure.
