RARE Soft Bodied Fossil- (Wiwaxia corrugata) -Lower Cambrian- Utah *Set of two*. Condition is "New". Shipped with USPS First Class.Wiwaxia's affinity has been a matter of debate: Researchers were long split between two possibilities. On the one hand, its rows of scales looked superficially similar to certain scale worms (annelids); conversely, its mouthparts and general morphology suggested a relationship to the shell-less molluscs. More recently, evidence for a molluscan affinity has been accumulating, based on new details of Wiwaxia's mouthparts, scales, and growth history.

-These fossils are EXTREMELY rare in the trade, and you won’t be able to find them anywhere on the internet. These are a great and rare example of soft bodied preservation in the fossil record. This animal was one of the first animals to appear on our great planet during the Cambrian explosion, and is still debated to this day on exactly what it is.
-The Wheeler shale in Utah’s House Range, is one of the few places in the world where these sorts of animals are preserved, and is considered a “Burgess Shale” type deposit. It is world famous for trilobites (Elrathina kingii) but also preserves many other extinct soft bodied animals.
**There are also bits of Elrathina Trilobites mixed throughout both specimens**
