    Description

These two natural wood daruma dolls are hand-carved, painted, sealed and polished. Their countenance expresses a persistent, single-mindedness heard in the Japanese phrase:  "
    nana korobi ya oki
" which translates to mean “seven times down, eight times up!”  Such dolls are displayed for good luck, prosperity, and success in a
    ny endeavor.
The first picture with the empty Hawaiian beer bottle (NFS) is to illustrate the size of the both of the daruma and not the cause of their ups and downs
.  Although hand-polished and in very good condition, each daruma has had several bouts of being downed and back-up as evidence in the pictures all taken in a camera tent.
The larger of the two daruma (right) sits 5.5" tall on a bottom base diameter of 2.75" with a 4.5" measurement at its widest width. The base has a circular 1.75" diameter hole that is 2" deep that looks to have been never covered.  It weighs 12 ounces.  Both eyes are painted in black.
The smaller of the two (left)
is made of zelkova wood, painted and sealed with lacquer in a beautiful brown and natural tones of the wood.  Zelkova wood is prized by local Yamagata craftsmen who are famous for this type of daruma kokeshi.  This doll's fierce facial demeanor expresses the same Japanese phrase:  "
    nana korobi ya oki
".  The dolls are displayed for good luck, prosperity, and success in any endeavor. This kokeshi is in very good condition despite several bouts of being down and back up evident in its existence.  It measures 4.75 " in height, with a base diameter of 1.5" measures with a
hole that measures .5" in diameter to a depth of 1.75"
and widest body width of 2.5".  It weights is about 9 ounces.  Will answer all questions promptly. Both will be carefully wrapped and shipped via USPS first class with tracking.
