Vintage Japanese Geisha Doll
Meet Satsuki – “gossamer moon” – a dignified geisha with a very unique presence. Unlike many “fashion dolls" on the market
this one is not done-up in a flamboyant kimono. Hers is a restrained deep olive color silk with ivory crepe lining and contrasting bronze and orange obi. Her facial expression, posture and attire reflect a mature woman commanding respect and admiration.
Satsuki stands at 17.5” tall on a simple black lacquer base. She carries a handcrafted parasol and hand painted fan – “sensu”.
Her ornamented upswept hair completes her look. Her delicately painted face, and her hands and feet, are made of “gofun” oyster shell finish. The doll is in excellent condition for her age, with some fading of the delicate silk - typical after 75 years. Satsuki was made in about 1950. She is delicate and deserving of TLC.
This is a rare figure – truly one of a kind.
