Description
From a long forgotten box in my office closet (and a Tucson vet's estate some twenty years ago) is this WW2 German Wehrmacht rifle cleaning kit , I believe for the Mauser K98 - the enamel painted pressed steel case with at least some of the requisite contents. Be aware these are absolutely not any area of extreme expertise for me and I'm relying on information found on line - I welcome corrections if I am off the mark. One lid is imprinted "AAR 41", apparently denoting a manufacture by Braunschweigische Blechwarenfabrik in 1941 - there is further a Waffenamt stamp to the inner side of that lid with "WaA57". There is nothing in that compartment. Opening the other lid reveals a well made steel oiler, a pull-through cleaning chain, a "Reinigungsburste" bore brush, and an obviously old American steel mounted brush added in by the vet. The oiler is marked "HAWIG" - the pull chain is a wartime type with a very small Waffenamt I cannot read. There is an ancient "H" pin engraved on one side of the case, likely by the soldier who used it. I assume this is a liberated souvenir (well except for that American brush), though keep in mind I wasn't there. Condition is quite good though not absolutely pristine perfect, with a charismatic aura of time to the surfaces. The case exterior retains perhaps 70 or so percent of the original paint. There are a few small shallow taps and other typical evidence of combat service. The lid hinges and clasps work exactly as they should Everything within appears intact and viable - keep in mind they were in service when taken. All usual and expected evidence of "being there" serve to validate a genuine history. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size of the case is about 5 1/4 in. vertical and 3 15/32 in. across - 1 3/32 in. front to back. The oiler is about 4 1/16 in. long. The pull chain is about 34 in. long. If you require a relevant European Theater souvenir , or simply wish this single tangible link to a veteran who helped save the world, this will have great meaning to you. NOTE: Ive decided to do this as a final sale auction like the old days, so feel free to ask any questions and bid accordingly.Payment Terms
