WWII ORIGINAL GERMAN WEHRMACHT OFFICER LEATHER GREATCOAT
DESCRIPTION:
Offered to you is this original German WW2 Wehrmacht officer’s leather greatcoat worn over the uniform. Dark grey in color, marked pebbled surface buttons, shoulder boards fitted - typical for the Wehrmacht. The initials of the owner L.U. are stenciled on the inside. There were at least 13 variations of the leather greatcoat used by the Wehrmacht, not counting their counterparts used by Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine. Officers and Officials with ranking of officers were entitled to wear these coats as optional items and were given the choice to have them customized and tailor made as was the case with their uniforms. Very well preserved for its age, shows some usual signs of wear and use, (all visible on photos). This coat is perfect for reenactment or for display purposes. It would proudly take its place in any WW2 collection or museum. Measurements: width at shoulders – 22”, width at armpits – 23”, sleeve length – 27”, total length – 38”, small label Size 54. This coat along with other coats and uniforms were captured in 1944 from the Wehrmacht while passing through the Balkans on its retreat from the Eastern Front. They were stored in a military warehouse that was sealed until recently. Many of the coats and almost all of the uniforms didn’t survive through the years and were destroyed. We were able to buy out all of the remaining good ones and will be offering them for sale over the next few weeks.
German WWII items were destroyed at a great scale after the war by all participating countries. A couple of years ago we were able to completely buy out probably the only untouched military warehouse of leftover captured German WWII equipment including some precious Lazarett field hospital equipment and sets. Most of our items come in original, boxed and unused condition since the war. Most of the German military and medical items that we own and currently sell are among the only left of its kind in the world.
