Description
The world had never seen an army like the German army of WW2; as Winston Churchill once said, "If it is to live in peace it must never see another." In the late 1930s, the German military sought to replace the venerable P.08 Luger with an easier to produce, less costly pistol. Walther had already been developing its Model HP (Heeres Pistole) and AP (Armee Pistole) locked breech, double action, auto loading handguns in hope of a military contract, and with a few small design changes, their finished product was adopted by the German military as the P.38. At first only produced by Walther, a massive need for handguns during the height of WW2 saw contracts let to Mauser and Spreewerke, with slides, frames, and mags also produced by FN in Belgium. By the end of the war, around 1.2 million P.38s had been produced. That iconic pistol has been of great interest to collectors for decades, leading Stéphane Cailleau to write a compact yet comprehensive reference book on the subject in 2020. This "WALTHER P.38" GERMAN WW2 MAUSER SPREEWERKE FN 9MM PISTOL GUN REFERENCE BOOK is in near mint, unread condition, with only some light scattered storage wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the book is in near mint shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts elegantly illustrated hardcovers, and sports 79 pages full of descriptive text, period pictures, and color photographs of P.38 pistols by Walther, Mauser, and Spreewerke, with excellent details on history, development, and use, variations between the three makers, finishes, manufacturer's codes, inspection stamps, serial numbers, parts produced by FN in Belgium, Police versions, mags, ammo, leather holsters, and much more. A beautiful example of a "WALTHER P.38" GERMAN WW2 MAUSER SPREEWERKE FN 9MM PISTOL GUN REFERENCE BOOK. With apologies to our valued international clients, we must restrict bidding to US bidders only.
